I wrote this poem for my best friend, Arlene, Ex wife and all, but friend for all that.  She was in a bad relationship with someone who she shouldn't have been in a relationship with.  She was so unhappy and so desperate and thank God she dumped that bastard.  There was nothing in it for me, but I cared, and still do, that she has a good life.  It is one of my favorite poems.

Desperately in love

It’s really uncanny to say the least

The inability to take control and tame the beast

It’s a human syndrome and none are exempt

Unless it's seen in another and one has to attempt

To create a smile, made for forgetting the trials

To lighten the load, cause there's many more miles

There are others you know, though the passage is slow

Who are in love too, but find it hard to show

Love should be easy, fun and all should share

That’s the beauty of love, people really do care

Desperation’s an obsession and everyone knows

It’s an addiction, a cancer, and it always grows

It feeds on the heart and squeezes it tight

It plays with emotions and try as you might

It’s so tough to let go when you think it feels right

That’s the time when you really need to put up a fight

Decisions are made and its time to look forward

Climb the stairs, make a stand, reach out toward

Break free of confusion and let yourself fly

Stand still no longer, it's not time to die

You know well enough to say you’re through

Never ever love someone who cannot love you
